About Us

Wall Street, NYC
Founded in 2005, Green Mountain Analytics is a company born out of necessity. In order to broaden their horizons and increase their profitability, our founders needed to leverage themselves by analyzing more trading hypotheses, developing new trading systems, and recognizing more real-time trading opportunities. Equally important was the need for a framework to execute these trading opportunities both instantly and efficiently, with the ability to manage the resulting positions for optimum profit and minimal risk.

Eventually, they came to the realization that a single platform with this extensive toolset did not exist in the marketplace. Their desire for a “seamless solution”, thereby avoiding the IT nightmare that occurs when running multiple independent applications, simply could not be met, and so they set out to build it themselves.

Recognizing the importance of trader input, a strong emphasis was placed on assembling a knowledgeable development team with a strong trading background. This aspect was deemed critical in creating a product filled with true value added trading tools. Over time the GMA team has grown into an extensive and diverse workforce with personnel in multiple USA offices. GMA now maintains a dedicated staff for support, product development, client relations, and programming. In addition, GMA has successfully aligned itself with world class partners in the financial industry including Lime Brokerage, Activ Financial, and Echotrade. In the future GMA will continue to grow, adding more experienced, committed talent anytime the opportunity presents itself.

Daniel Murphy, Co-Founder and Managing Director

Mr. Murphy’s career in finance began at Niederhoffer Investments, where he became a junior partner before his departure in the summer of 1997. While with Niederhoffer Investments, his primary responsibilities were the construction of quantitative trading systems based on the analysis of historical prices, and the practical application of these models by capturing short-term price inefficiencies in the foreign exchange and financial futures markets. Upon leaving Niederhoffer, Mr. Murphy spent over a year in Romania analyzing the potential for private equity investments and then returned to the United States (and the world of trading) in April 1999 to work for Arbitrade LLC (which was subsequently acquired by Knight Securities and later Citigroup). As a risk manager in U.S. Equity Index options, he co-managed a team of market-making floor traders in the CBOT Dow, CBOE Dow, CBOE Nasdaq 100, CME Nasdaq 100, and AMEX QQQ options crowds via wireless, hand-held computers. By adjusting the variables of the models, he set values for all series and strikes based on existing positions, historical valuation, market conditions and perceptions, trader feedback, and the desk’s real-time activity on other floors. Mr. Murphy was also involved with the deployment of the firm’s primary valuation and risk management software. Since January 2001, Mr. Murphy has been engaged in the development of GMA software products including Observer, an historical back-testing engine and Apexview, the firms proprietary real-time recognition technology. During this period, he has applied his models/toolset to short-term trading strategies in U.S. Equity markets.

Mr. Murphy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Harvard University in 1990.
